Our design studio is based in Morningside in Durban, South Africa. All meetings and collections are by appointment only. There is no consultation fee for meetings during working hours at our studio so do make a plan to visit us, and discuss your ideas over a cuppa.
Do you work with clients everywhere?
As most of our work is done via email, your location isn’t a problem! We work with clients from all over South Africa and abroad, without any complications.
How long will the process take?
We need at least 2 to 4 weeks to finalise the design and a further 2 weeks for production. From start to finish, please allow between 4 and 8 weeks for all custom stationery – sometimes a bit longer if the work requires extensive handwork or specialised printing processes. Design, printing and assembling time differs per customer, and often depends on timely client responses as well as how intricate the design work is. Please allow sufficient time for your stationery to be completed in a professional and quality manner.
Do you do electronic invitations?
Yes, of course! Electronic invites save a lot of time, and can be sent out as soon as the design is finalised. Please allow 2 to 4 weeks for the design phase.
How does the process work?
Step 1: Consultation / Discussion – Whether we meet in person or discuss over email, we will need some information before we can quote you accurately. We’ll send you a brief with some questions where we discuss colour palettes, font, paper and printing, and we’ll ask you to send through a few images that emulate the design style you envisage.
Step 2: Quoting – After we’ve got all the information we need in order to quote you accurately, we’ll work on a detailed quotation for you which will sent to your inbox within a few days. It’s important to let us know your budget during the consultation process so that we can make sure to deliver a quote that fits within your individual budget needs.
Step 3: Deposit – Once you’ve given us a thumbs up, we’ll require a deposit before we begin the design phase in order to schedule your job into our calendar. Once this is received, we’ll get started on working our magic!
Step 4: First look – You’ll receive a first look within 1-2 weeks from the date of payment, sent via email presentation with a digital mock up of your designs. so that you can discuss and send us feedback.
Step 5: Feedback – This is where you come in! Once you’ve looked through the digital presentation, we wait for honest and detailed feedback so that we can make changes to get your designs absolutely perfect. Three sets of changes are included in the design fee to make sure we create something you absolutely love. An hourly rate will be charged thereafter.
Step 6: Production – Once you’re happy with the design and proposed materials, we’ll require for you to sign off your final design and we’ll start assembling the stationery of your dreams. If you would like a physical mock up of your designs before doing the full run, please enquire with us about this. All stationery is handcrafted with love, and we make sure that every item that leaves our studio has the Ruby + Swallow stamp of approval.
Step 7: Balance Payment & Collection – Production will take approximately 10 working days, and once complete, you will be able to collect from our studio or we can courier to you at your cost. Before you collect your paper pretties, we require the balance of your invoice payment to be made.
How do I get an idea of costs?
All of our work is bespoke and we quote each client according to their specific needs. The best bet is to send us your exact requirements and we will send you an accurate quote.
What is your payment process?
Before we start on the design process, we require the full design fee as a deposit to secure your job. Payments can be made via EFT. If you are an international client, your payments can be made via PayPal or EFT, however, please note that additional transfer fees will be for your own account. The balance of the invoice will be due before collection or delivery of any items.
What types of printing do you do?
The most cost effective printing method is digital printing, so this is what we quote all clients on. If you are interested in a more specialised printing technique, please enquire! We offer foiling, embossing and screen printing. These types of printing come at a higher cost, but are definitely worth it (love is in the details, after all). We also offer die cutting and laser cutting.
What types of paper do you use?
We use a range of luxurious, speciality papers, and have experience with which stock will work best for the style we have created for you. Once we’ve created your bespoke design we’ll advise you on what paper will work best. If you have a particular stock in mind, please just let us know and we’d be happy to quote you on this.
Please note that colour may vary slightly from screen to paper when designs are printed. Due to differences between computer monitor displays, some colour variance is unfortunately unavoidable.
Handcrafted with love
All of our products are made locally by hand, and this means that ever so slight variations may occur between items.
Can I see a sample before production?
Yes of course! We can create a mock up of your stationery for you to approve before we begin with production. Please note that this may be at extra cost.
Do you only create invitations?
Not at all – we can create any stationery item you need for your wedding day or special occasion! We can also assist with business branding, website or social media design, and any other types of graphic design you may require.
Shipping and delivery
All items will be sent via a reliable overnight courier service once complete. If you are located in a main area of South Africa, you will receive your package the next day; outlying areas will receive it within 1-3 days. Your courier fee will be determined based on weight, size, and your location. We cannot deliver to any postal box addresses, and we’ll need a physical address and your contact details for all orders within South Africa. Please note that no deliveries will be made within the Durban area. If you are based locally in Durban, you are welcome to collect from our studio (by appointment only).
